America’s Founding Fathers understood the importance of defending free speech as a fundamental principle for the world’s first republic including it as the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Without the right to speak freely and debate ideas publicly, freedom in any society-including America-will die. It happened in Nazi Germany, and there are ominous signs that this right is being threatened in a similar fashion in America today.
